I grew up in my dad’s body shop.
At age 12, I wanted a drum set.
Over the years, the two worlds have collided.
My desire to make music from behind a set of drums
and my affection for shiny paint and sparkling chrome
have led me to create finishes for modern drumsets that are unique and personal.
I hope you like ‘em.
I am unable to do any finish work right now, I have some other irons in the fire that are keeping me pretty busy...but if  I am doing it again some time in the future, you’ll read about it on this page. ‘Til then, enjoy the pix!

This is my version of Sonor’s ‘Black Diamond’. Stunning under stage lighting.
Or any other lighting, actually...

FlameFront1202

This was a collaboration with a legendary graphic artist in Lincoln by the name of Loren Tilton.

I guess I’m into repeating patterns and textures.  This is one more expression of that theme.

Always been a fan of blue sparkle. Dreadfully labor-intensive, but what a finish.
This one was for Jeff Speegle, with luck I’ll have one of these of my own coming out of the booth soon.

I felt this was a good concept, but too subtle on white.
So I went back to the drawing board....

...and came up with this.  The silver flakes over the top of the purple flakes give a great effect.

Bought this Peavey Radial Pro 1000 kit, knowing that it would need a refinish. Here’s before and after. Couple more below.

Finally got my own blue sparkle kit done!  Sonor Delites, 8 thru 16
hanging toms, 22 kick, and a 14x6 Designer snare.

Charcoal Sparkle.  This is a Keller kit that I built up. The 20x22 kick is pretty cool..

This is actually the blue kit on the far right at the top of this page.  I liked the color, but wondered what flakes on top of that blue would look like. A touch of purple flake was thrown in for fun. Great effect.  Trivia: These are Ed’s favorites.

These were Sonor’s Aqua Green. Cool, but I needed to sell them, so black sparkle was the chosen color.

Sizes were 10-12-13-14-20x17.5

These were good drums, but scratched up. I liked the results with the SCPs above, so black sparkle they became. I went with a higher density of flakes, and like them a little better.

SCPblkspkl11

Liked the results with the black sparkle kits above, so I did one for myself.  It’s an S-Class Pro, sizes are 8, 10, 12, 14x14, 16x16, 17.5x22, and 5x14. Even higher density of flakes on this kit.
They kept looking better, so I kept flakin’...

Well, sometimes you don’t exactly pick an instrument, it just sorta picks you. I’ll never refinish another piano, but the studio needed one, and this fine used piano was everything I wanted...on the inside.

See, I ordered black.

....soooo, black it became.  30-something hours and many inventive expletives later, my 70-year old (but new to me) piano is now shiny black.

I was contacted by Sonor to do a custom finish for another endorser--Robb Rivera of the band Nonpoint wanted an army green Delite kit.

I was happy to oblige.

NorthOrPurp05

Anybody remember North drums?

Marc Attinasi is the North Guru. This was just to see if I could paint one of these animals.  It went well, but I need more practice.

Marc?!?

The orange sparkle turned out great. So cool, and so different from what I usually do, that it got me thinkin’.....

OrangeSCM01

...about this kit that I had just found the last piece for, but I hadn’t decided on a color yet.  Well, thanks to Marc, I found my color.

Also--a big “Thanks” to my bud Jeff at Sign Here in West Point for the ‘01’ for the bd head.

...get it?
